Ronin Cooking
"Our hope is to share a deeper understanding, appreciation, and connection to our food"Ronin began in September of 2011 when the family's midwife needed a caterer for her wedding and began hosting small dinner events soon after. The owners, Brian and Amanda Light, created the business in hopes of providing a culinary experience similar to how people used to cook-- with whatever food was in season. At Ronin we get 90% of all of our product from local, Texas farmers, ranchers, and fishermen.
The job requirements for working at Ronin include: having a positive attitude, being open minded, and working hard. Anyone hoping to work at Ronin should be willing to work outside of his or her set job description. As a small company we are all required to work and help wherever is most needed. A major benefit from this is learning new skills and tools that you would never assume you would get in an event coordination internship. The staff, and especially my incredible boss and mentor, make working there so enjoyable--these people have become my family. Of course another benefit is the phenomenal meals that our talented chefs think up and cook for us at staff meals. During this experience, I learned how to answer emails and business phone calls, create menus for the events, write the newsletter, create tickets for events, provide excellent customer service. |
Ronin at the Ice HouseAs a part of my internship I have been able to learn what it takes to open a restaurant. We are currently in the process of opening Ronin at the Ice House in downtown Bryan. We have partnered with AdventGX and will be just one of the businesses to occupy the Ice House on Main. I'm looking forward to being a part of the event design team in this beautiful building!

Full Moon DinnersEvery month during the full moon, Ronin offers a nine-course dinner at the farm. The first eight courses are held in the forest (pictured to the left) and the last course, dessert and coffee, takes place in the garden underneath the stars and the full moon.
To prepare for these events I, along with our other employees, would help with everything from making the menu (similar to the menu pictured below), creating the seating chart, cleaning the forest and garden, polishing all of the dinnerware, creating the floral centerpieces, and setting up the tables (with candles, plates, glasses, etc.). During the dinner I helped with serving the food and beverages and making sure the guests were happy. After the event, I helped with all of the clean up and would talk about how the event went and what we needed to do different in the future with Brian and Amanda. |
WeddingsAs an aspiring event coordinator I was so excited to hear that Ronin was becoming a new and desirable wedding venue. On our 15 acres of land we have two beautiful barns, a lovely garden, a large, open pasture, and of course, the enchanted forest.
Some of my duties pertaining to weddings and event coordination include: giving farm tours, assisting in client wrap-up meetings, answering emails, taking supply inventory, looking up pricing for rentals, creating invoices, making garland, setting tables, event set up, service during the wedding or event, and tear down once the event is finished. |
